SHOTOVER U1 Becomes First FAA Approved Heavy-Lift Unmanned Aerial System in the World to Fly Film and Digital Cameras Up to 88lbs

SHOTOVER, a developer of high-performance stabilization platforms, announced today that the SHOTOVER U1 has been approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to fly film and digital cinema cameras with a maximum take off weigh of up to 88lbs. The approval makes the SHOTOVER U1 the first, and only, ready-to-fly heavy-lift unmanned aerial system (UAS) to fly in the world to be approved by the FAA for use in the motion picture, television and commercial production industries.

“The FAA approval for the U1 is the culmination of countless hours of hard work by the SHOTOVER team and drone specialist Victor Lee,” said SHOTOVER CEO Brad Hurndell. "This approval enables productions to push the limits of their aerial shots and employ the same professional-grade cameras and lenses they choose for their principal photography.”

The FAA weight exemption was awarded after a rigorous year and a half analysis of the development, testing and safety practices implemented when producing the SHOTOVER U1. The United States Secretary of Transportation determined the SHOTOVER U1 is safe to operate in the national airspace. Additional determining factors included the size, weight, and operational capability of the U1.

"I have flown countless UAS platforms and the U1’s unprecedented safety features, and capabilities far surpass anything I have used," said drone specialist and pilot Victor Lee. “The SHOTOVER U1  gives me the confidence to focus on the creative aspect of filmmaking rather than dividing my attention, wondering if the system will remain operational.”
