SHOTOVER Flies High in Southern Hemisphere as System of Choice for Savannah Helicopters

To meet its demanding production schedule across the austere sub-Saharan environment, South Africa’s Savannah Helicopters turned to the SHOTOVER F1 for its versatility, light weight and ease of use. “The F1 has been spectacular, allowing us to deliver Hollywood quality aerial footage for our motion picture, broadcast and commercial clients,” said Savannah Helicopters owner Conrad Maree.  “Not only are the images rock steady, the system accommodates an incredibly broad range of cameras and lenses enabling us to always choose the perfect tools for each assignment.  Combined with SHOTOVER’s complementary training and phenomenal ongoing support, the F1 is a key tool that helps us stand out in the sub-Saharan filmmaking community.”

Savannah recently used the F1 in filming Aerial Africa, a documentary by Aquavision TV Productions for the Smithsonian Institute.  Shot across locations in South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Namibia, images captured include the raging rapids of the Zambezi river and the endless dunes of the Namib Desert.  The F1 has also been used in shooting for the upcoming motion pictures Resident Evil and Of Kings and Prophets along with commercials for Brutoni,Takko and ProjectC.

The company mounts its SHOTOVER F1 on a Eurocopter AS 350 B2, ZS-RWC and the system has performed effortlessly in extreme conditions of dust and heat including temperatures in excess of 118 Fahrenheit. Pilot Gert Uys and cameraman, Chris Lomax are the main operators for Savannah’s shoots.  In addition to its production work, Savannah also provides a full complement of aviation services.  These include charter, geological survey, precision lifting, aerial firefighting and specialized game work.  The company’s fleet includes eight Eurocopter AS 350 B2/B3 helicopters and a Robinson R44.
